Some of you may know that I spent much of last November and December in Thailand, discovering new experiences and revisiting places I hadn't been to in quite some time. So when National Geographic Traveller India asked me to put a five-story guide to the country, I naturally couldn't refuse.
My lovely editor gave me a fair bit of editorial freedom, so you'll see a few of my personal favorite tips and experiences in the pages - I'll tell you how to find vegetarian and vegan options, for example, and I'll point out the best spots for some of my personal favorite things to do in Thailand, including trekking, climbing, admiring temple architecture, and eating noodles!
The guide starts out with a primer on Northern vs. Southern Thailand. I've also given a few tips on where to find some of Bangkok's best noodle dishes, beyond the ubiquitous pad Thai. Since I know a lot of people head to Thailand for the beaches, I share the lowdown on which ones are best for partying, romance, relaxing, or hanging out with the family. I love to play outside, and I know plenty of our readers do, too, so I made sure to include a section on Thailand for outdoorsy types, with details on where to scuba dive, rock climb, kayak, trek, and motorbike. Finally, Thailand has some incredible temples (and when you're writing for a primarily Indian readership, the bar is set high). I included four of my personal favorites, which I think both secular and devout readers will find worthy of visiting.
